Event Summary October 18, 2013: Personalized Periodontal Medicine at The Cummings Center Boston, MA.

Impact Dental Solutions represented by Doug Thompson DDS, Diane Wilkins RDH Veronica Wambach RDH brought Personalized Periodontal Medicine to New England and the Boston area on Friday, October 18. The meeting was hosted by Dr. Bole Kuljic from Boston. The historical Cummings Center was the site of the meeting which is a beautifully restored early 1900's shoe manufacturing complex. “The Shoe” as the building is referred to hosted six offices with a total of seven dentists and many of their staff.

For many it was their first exposure to salivary or molecular diagnostics and using information about periodontal  pathogens in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of periodontal disease. In addition to learning that the pathogen load is significant in periodontal disease management it was equally enlightening for them to learn how the pathogens can affect systemic health and contribute to vascular inflammation. Dr. Thompson and his team hopes that these offices would realize the benefits to their patients, their practice, and their teams through the integration of comprehensive periodontal management into their practices. Course surveys revealed that the material was enthusiastically presented and was well received.  Feedback regarding attendees biggest “a-hah” moments  included:

  • “I honestly didn’t know about salivary diagnostics until today!”
  • “Couldn't’t believe the simplicity of the system"
  • “Did not know ACT was acidic”
  • “ Ease of tracking salivary test results and comparing them to patients previous perio charting.  Great way to track progression of the disease.”

Dr. Thompson's team hopes to return at a future date for a more in-depth look at Personalized Periodontal Medicine and the growth the practices have realized from this material.
